The average length of employment among the team members in our office is 11 years. This type of longevity results in an experienced staff with an unparalleled understanding of the needs within an orthodontic office in terms of caring, clinical skills, and customer service. All team members are CPR certified and participate in continuing education, OSHA and HIPAA training on an annual basis. We invite you to get to know us!
Tammy
Tammy has been an integral part of our team since 1994. She has been working in the field of orthodontics since 1987 after earning her diploma in Dental Assisting from York Technical College. As our Financial Coordinator, Tammy truly enjoys working with our families to arrange flexible payment schedules to meet their needs. Tammy is analytical and detail oriented, as well as extremely warm and caring. She is known for going the extra mile for our patients and always strives to make discussing finances as comfortable as possible.
Shirleen
After attending Coastal Carolina Community College in Jacksonville, NC, Shirleen got her start in the orthodontic field in 1980. She has been an important part of our team since 1997. As both our Front Office Administrator and Insurance Coordinator, Shirleen is responsible for making sure our front office runs seamlessly and that your insurance claims are filed smoothly and efficiently. Holidays are extra special in our office thanks to Shirleen, as she is also responsible for the creative decorations and fun festivities we often enjoy. Shirleen feels fortunate to be part of a practice that provides such excellent customer service on every level, always treating our patients and parents with the utmost care. She loves being part of a staff that truly becomes your family.
Monty
Monty joined our team in the summer of 1999 when she moved to Charlotte. She earned her Medical Terminology Certificate from Spartanburg Tech and regularly attends continuing education courses to maintain her excellent skills as a Treatment Coordinator. She enjoys working in the friendly and caring atmosphere of our office and loves watching our young patients grow into young adults with beautiful smiles. Very experienced and knowledgeable, Monty will enthusiastically answer any questions you many have about treatment.
Rhonda
Rhonda is originally from Louisiana and attended Louisiana Tech University as well as Louisiana State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. After entrusting three children to our care, Rhonda "officially" joined our team in 2005 and enjoys assisting our families as a Front Office Support Team Member and Treatment Coordinator. Rhonda is also the New Patient Coordinator for our office. The professionalism and reputation of our doctors and the caring, friendly personalities of the staff are what made her want to be part of this extraordinary team. Julie
Julie graduated from the University of North Carolina - Charlotte, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. She joined our team in 2005 as a Treatment Coordinator and loves the fun and friendly atmosphere of our office. Julie is passionate about making sure that her patients have all the information they need and that they feel comfortable about their upcoming treatment. Her warm, caring personality and attention to detail always make meeting with Julie a positive and pleasant experience.
Anna
Anna is a graduate of Kent State University in Ohio where she earned her Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance. She joined our team in 2008 and brings many years of professional office experience to our practice. Anna sincerely enjoys assisting our families as a Front Office Support Team Member and loves seeing our patients smile after they get their braces off. She shines in her additional roles as the Coordinator of our Smile for a Lifetime program and as the liaison to our local community organizations and schools. Anna considers it a privilege to be a part of the amazingly talented and exceptionally caring Starr & Dickens Orthodontics team.
Elizabeth
Elizabeth is a graduate of North Carolina State University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, with a minor in Criminal Justice. She joined Starr & Dickens Orthodontics in 2014 as a member of our Front Office Support Team and excels as our Social Media Point Person, where our practice connects with you online. Elizabeth loves working in customer service and truly enjoys getting to know each of our families. The friendly and fun atmosphere of our office is what drew her to our team. Picture Coming Soon!
Jana
Jana knew from the time she was young girl that she wanted to work in the field of orthodontics. A graduate of Butler High School, she joined the Starr & Dickens Orthodontics team in 2006 as a Lab Assistant. Jana’s role in the new patient process is an important one. After your initial office tour, she will take the digital x-rays and pictures needed for your exam. Jana enjoys this contact with our new patients as she loves to meet people and is wonderful with kids. In addition, she assists in our lab, chair side, and in the front office. Jana's shining smile and patience make her a true compliment to our team.
Kendra
Kendra graduated from Marshall University with an Associates Degree in Business and has a Massage Therapist certification from Mountain State School of Massage in West Virginia. Before entering the field of orthodontics, she provided massage therapy for cancer patients, pregnant moms-to-be and patients with special needs. In 1993 she made a career change and became an Orthodontic Assistant. She joined the Starr & Dickens Orthodontics team in 2001 and loves the enthusiastic, caring nature of our office. With a passion for orthodontics and love of her patients, Kendra quickly becomes an important part of her patient’s families. Conscientious and caring, Kendra is a true asset to the team.
Sharon
Sharon earned her diploma in Dental Assisting from Central Piedmont Community College in 1986. She joined Starr & Dickens Orthodontics in 2004 and loves being an Orthodontic Assistant; getting to know her patients and developing an ongoing relationship with each one of them is very important to her. The fast pace of our office suits Sharon very well; having been one of 11 kids growing up she is used to moving at a swift pace! Sharon loves the people she works with and feels very fortunate to work for such talented and well respected doctors.
Lisa
Lisa’s interest in orthodontics began when she was a patient in braces herself. She started working in the field in 1995 and joined our team as an Orthodontic Assistant in 2002. The family-oriented feel of our office and exceptional reputation of our practice is what drew Lisa to our practice. Seeing the positive change in her patients' self-esteem as they complete treatment is Lisa’s favorite thing about working in orthodontics. Her warm, caring personality and unpredictable, hilarious sense of humor are just a few of the reasons Lisa is adored by her patients and co-workers alike.
Kim
Kim earned her Associates degree in Applied Science from Central Piedmont Community College in 1999. Originally certified in the state of Florida, Kim has been an Orthodontic Assistant since 2002. In 2007, she and her family moved back to her hometown of Matthews and Kim joined the Starr & Dickens Orthodontics team. Adored by her patients and their families, Kim loves the interaction with her patients that being an assistant provides.
Angie
Angie graduated from Kings College in 1992 with a diploma in Medical Assisting. After working in a physician’s office for several years, she got her start as an Orthodontic Assistant in 1998 and joined our team in 2009. Angie is passionate about caring for her patients, always striving to make each orthodontic experience as comfortable and fun as possible. With her sweet, gentle nature and contagious laugh, she is loved by her patients and coworkers alike. Holidays are extra special in our office thanks to Angie, as she is responsible for the creative decorations and fun festivities that we often enjoy.
Nicole
Nicole graduated from Lake Norman Dental Assisting School in 2014 and got her start with Starr & Dickens Orthodontics through an internship. She already had a natural comfort level with the team as she was a former patient in our office. As one of our Lab Assistants, Nicole takes new patient pictures and x-rays, takes impressions, and makes retainers. Nicole considers her position to be a blessing, as she is able to contribute to each patient's smile changing process - the same process that drastically changed her smile! Picture Coming Soon!
